Kamelia Britton talks about the importance of self-care

May 31st, 2021

3 minute read

An entrepreneur, business coach, former nurse, and breast cancer survivor.

Cancer is just one part of Kamelia Britton’s full and adventurous life. After feeling burnt out as a nurse, Britton started a travel blog and Instagram. It quickly became a full-time career, and she even began coaching others on how to create their own online businesses. Living her dream, cancer came out of nowhere, as it always does. She was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in 2019.

Britton had to pivot and hone in on taking care of herself for a year of brutal treatment. Unable to travel, she shifted by placing more focus on coaching. She focused on how she was going to leave a legacy and focused on living, not dying.

Already heavily involved in social media, she decided to be open and vocal about her treatment. She wanted to show an authentic and honest perspective. After 16 rounds of chemo, 20 rounds of radiation, and multiple surgeries, Britton is in remission. She is grateful to be complete and to be able to inspire other women to create their own businesses and live a freedom-based lifestyle.

Britton has created the IMPACT Method, which works to reframe and dismantle limiting beliefs through hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming. She has also created the REV Method, which hones in on rewiring the mindset and building up self-confidence. Individuals tap into the subconscious mind and Britton guides them through intuitive questioning.

Britton starts each day practicing what she preaches: self-care. This involves meditation, walking her dog, sipping a green smoothie, and really honing in on herself and what she needs. Not only is this beneficial for her, but when she meets with clients they can absorb her energy and achieve better results.

Britton seeks to help people, whether it be through business or mindset. Through Circle of Hope, she hopes to help people reconnect with their higher selves. She has experienced the uphill battle of cancer first hand, and knows the importance of taking care of oneself, as a cancer patient and a nurse.

Apart from the patient, Britton recognizes the impact cancer has on caregivers as well. Her husband was by her side throughout her journey. Although his attention was very focused on her, he appreciated it when others asked how he was feeling. Britton thinks it will be very beneficial for caregivers to have a space where they can be seen as well.

Caprice Crebar

Owner, For Healthy Connections

Meet healthy living advocate, Caprice Crebar

June 8th, 2021

3 minute read

In the midst of working 24/7, having to send her kids off with the nanny to McDonald’s PlayPlace, and constantly having the Sunday blues, Caprice Crebar knew she needed a change. She became a full-time mom right when she got the chance, while also immersing herself in healthy living.

Caprice Crebar is a certified health coach and advocate for healthy living. She is also a franchise owner and chapter leader in The Heart Link Network, which is a networking organization dedicated to empowering women and creating meaningful relationships. Through her company For Healthy Connections, she combines health coaching with teaching women how to be their entrepreneurial selves.

Caprice wasn’t always focused on her health. She worked in marketing business development in the wireless telecom industry. She traveled constantly, and by the time her children came into her life, she was drained. She noticed they weren’t getting the proper nutrition they needed, and this was one of the main reasons she followed in the path of health and wellness.

After moving from Northern to Southern California, Caprice met a woman who was in a similar boat. She shared an opportunity in the Juice Plus+ community, and when Caprice watched her join she wanted to join herself. Juice Plus+ aims to bridge the gap between what people should eat and what they do eat everyday through concentrated produce capsules and more. Caprice has been working for Juice Plus+ as a health and nutrition consultant for the past 16 years.

Caprice has worked with thousands of people, many of whom were cancer patients. She doesn’t claim her expertise or products are a cure, but knows the impact of nutrition.

“When someone’s healthy, they want a thousand different things. When you don’t have your health, there’s only one thing you want: you want your health back,” said Caprice

Caregivers need to care for their own health and cancer patients need care for as much as they can control as well. We shouldn’t pour all of our energy into business or whatever else, and put our health on the back burner.

“How about you build your own personal health and treat it like a business too,” said Caprice.

Jacqueline Delibes

HeartMath Practitioner | Founder, The Soul & Science of Play

Kamelia Britton talks about the importance of self-care

Open your heart to Jacqueline Delibes, who combines evidence-based healing techniques with the arts

June 8th, 2021

3 minute read

It started after watching I Am, a documentary film that explores the question, “What is wrong with the world and what can we do about it?” The film examines what’s truly needed to create a healthier world and looks at science, philosophy, and many types of healing modalities, including one called HeartMath. Jacqueline Delibes immediately knew she needed to do some self-exploration. She was content as an actress and writer, but was aware of a resurgence of trauma from her past. In need of relief, she became involved in HeartMath.

HeartMath is an evidence-based healing system that decreases the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline through breathwork and the use of the imagination. Delibes became a certified HeartMath mentor and later expanded her reach as a healer by founding The Soul of Science and Play, a training company that combines the arts (theatre, improv) and healing techniques to empower women.

“One of the best ways to recover from depleting, stressful events is to take charge of calming the nervous system and to love-bomb ourselves,” said Delibes.

Delibes does one-on-one coaching and group training. With private clients, she teaches tools that quickly soothe the nervous system, restore a sense of psychological safety, and improve sleep. In group workshops, she helps clients develop confidence and leadership skills using role playing and improv techniques to imagine unexpected, uplifting outcomes.

She noticed that the relief she got from using her tools required regular practice.

“It’s like brushing your teeth or going to the gym, it’s not like you do it once and that’s it,” said Delibes. “Self-love and compassion means that real results come with time and patience.”

As a Guest Expert with the Circle of Hope, Delibes intends to provide care for the caregivers and guide them to create supportive life-long habits and the ability to get re-centered after a triggering emotional event. She mentions that when a loved one needs constant care, caregivers tend to experience compassion fatigue and burnout. One particular client of hers was a mother whose child had a serious autoimmune disorder that affects the brain. Delibes had to consistently remind her that it was worth her time to take her own self-care seriously and that her emotions and reactivity were also affecting her daughter.

“We’re not usually taught by mainstream medicine the role emotions can play as an underlying factor in illness - and in recovery. Our emotions affect others all the time. Caregivers must take care of themselves first so that they can give from a full cup to help loved ones,” said Delibes. The emotions and energy we exert are “infectious.

“We all have a huge magnetic field around us that’s created by the electricity of the heart,” she said.

Rebalancing emotions and calming the nervous system is a critical component to a caregiver’s health. When you lower stress hormones, you have more access to the prefrontal cortex. This is crucial for decision-making and mental clarity.

If we can be calm and optimistic, so can those near us. Delibes is honored to work with the cancer patients and caregivers within the Circle of Hope to cheer and remind them that they are worthy of love and care.

Kollen Harrison

Trauma Yoga Instructor

 tesr testr

Take a deep breath, and meet Kolleen Harrison

“Your breath is present. You can’t breathe into your future, you can’t breathe into your past,” Kolleen Harrison tells me through the all-to-familiar Zoom camera. That might be the best quote I’ve heard all year.

Harrison is a trauma yoga instructor and teaches one-on-one coaching for trauma and mental illness. Although only an instructor for five years, yoga has become her passion, her soul work, and her purpose.

“I feel like yoga came and took me by the hand and said ‘Okay I’m going to do this with you, you don’t have to go it alone,’” said Harrison.

Harrison was 18 when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. During her treatment, Harrison took over to teach her mother’s aerobics classes. Luckily, her mother detected the cancer early and was able to fight it. Harrison and her mom then went on to teach aerobics together and both became certified personal trainers.

Thinking back to the day she found out, Harrison said the first thing that comes to mind is fear. She was scared to lose her mom forever, and she feels so blessed that cancer didn’t win.

As her mom grew older, she shifted to teaching yoga. She currently still teaches in her 70s. Harrison, inspired by her mother, followed in her footsteps and took up yoga herself. She completed 200-hour yoga training, 300-hour yoga psychology training, and then trauma yoga training. It was through yoga psychology that she first learned about trauma yoga.

“My passion for it grew exponentially when I found out how much it helps those of us, myself included, that have trauma or that have anxiety and depression,” said Harrison.

A critical component of trauma yoga practice is languaging. Harrison has to be super careful about which language she uses as she does not know what each person has been through. She focuses on making them feel empowered and safe in their bodies while acknowledging that they have a choice in how they move. It is all about finding trust and learning to tune in.

The ability to tune in and be present is crucial when life feels like it's spiraling. After all, the one thing we can control is our breath. Through Circle of Hope, Harrison hopes to help people by teaching the importance of breath and letting them know that they are seen and heard.

“Sometimes I think we can feel so alone when we are going through hard times,” said Harrison, who’s ready to “just to come alongside and hold someone’s hand and say ‘I’m right here, we are going to go through this together.’”

Lisa Kowalski

Certified Personal Trainer & Fitness Coach

Meet Lisa, former soccer player turned rehabilitation guru

July 9th, 2021

3 minute read

Lisa Kowalski was a semi-professional soccer player in college, until a knee injury and replacement made her shift course. While getting a degree in Physical Education at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo she continued on this path to become a certified personal trainer and fitness coach.

It wasn’t until the pandemic that she realized people needed help with rehabilitation, and oftentimes did not know what to do after physical therapy ended.

“There’s a niche for trainers who could pick up the pieces or pick up the ball after people were doing physical therapy,” said Kowalski.

Her online training exploded when Covid-19 hit, and she was able to incorporate rehabilitation training for those in need. She teaches through live zooms with streaming workouts and through outdoor classes at Cycle Tribe. She currently has two cancer survivors as clients and helps them keep a healthy mindset post-treatment. Whatever the patient needs, she tailors her program to.

Kowalski also has rheumatoid arthritis herself, and she is able to manage it through proper exercise and nutrition.

Apart from the physical aspect, Kowalski believes having the right mindset is crucial.

“How you approach things mentally every day and how you go into your day every day is such a huge factor in what your day looks like physically and mentally, “ said Kowalski.

She believes in finding her clients “love-language,” or what makes them motivated and what drives them to be successful, and continues to talk to them with that in mind.

What brings her to Circle of Hope?

In 2007, her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since she was a smoker, Kowalski was not surprised. In fact, due to health being her “jam,” this was where she and her mother used to butt heads. Nonetheless, she was devastated.

“It was hard to watch her battle and watch it change her,” said Kowalski.

Kowalski used her training to help her mom and give her some strength. She and her sister became caregivers, and Kowalski realized how important it was for her to maintain her own health as well. Not only does she wish to help cancer patients through Circle of Hope, but caregivers too.

“I think Circle of Hope is going to be huge for patients and caregivers because the patient then can feel like they don’t have to worry about their families,” said Kowalski.

She can intervene and keep the caregiver healthy so that they can continue helping their loved ones.

“If they’re not strong and healthy then they can’t help the loved one, and then the patient can’t focus on their own journey,” said Kowalski, “So I would love to step in and bridge that gap.”

Kowalski is excited to be a part of Circle of Hope to both help people and let them know they are not alone in their journey.

“I’m putting it out to the universe that I feel like I’ve been put on the earth to help people,” said Kowalski, “It fills my cup when I see people winning.”

April Schirmer & Lisa Murray

Two Life Coaches - Founders

Two Life Coaches with one purpose- To guide, support, & encourage others in discovering what it's going to take to live their best life.

April Schirmer

I am a 5th generation native to the beautiful Central Coast, living in Arroyo Grande. My husband Scott & I have two adult children who are out on their own, but we are lucky to see them often. My 87 year old father-in-law lives with us along with our sweet dogs, Flynn & Murphy.

Family is everything to me and I believe part of my ‘purpose’ here is to serve others. Caregiver (I prefer the term "Care Partner") is another position that could be listed on my resumé - although it’s not been a job as much as it has been a reward for which I am deeply grateful. I think many of us find ourselves in the role of caregiver without having planned it and somehow I seemed to thrive in having that purpose. My business career spans over three decades of working in advertising & marketing, and I’ve been a business owner and consultant for most of that time.

I completed my training to become a board-certified Personal & Professional Coach in 2020 and will soon receive my ACC credential. My experiences have inspired me to coach with care partners and those in need of care. I also enjoy working with adults & professionals looking to make a career change, improve their work environment, and balancing all that life throws at us.I'm passionate about empowering others, helping them realize their full potential, inspiring & supporting their growth, and encouraging them to realize their full value. I like to say, "See Your Gold!"

Lisa Murray

Lisa is a third-generation resident of the central coast in California. She is a proud mother of two, bonus-mother of three and “Noni” of nine beautiful grandchildren. Her life journey has influenced and supported her passions of educator, community volunteer, and Life and Parent Coach. She is one of Two Life Coaches.

Lisa is a board-certified life coach (BCC), working with adults and adolescents through life transitions and exploration of their life purpose. Lisa’s ideal client recognizes change may be needed to be their best and is ready to move forward to create the life they desire. As Coach, she sees her role is to ask deep questions while providing a safe place to explore what they truly want. That, coupled with encouragement and accountability, supports her clients in achieving their personal goals essential in reinstating balance and happiness in their life.

A favorite quote, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why” ~ Mark Twain

What clients say about coaching with Lisa:

“Think about a banana. A coach peels away the skin to expose the individual a little at a time”.

“I like to use the analogy of me as an ‘athlete’ and Lisa my ‘coach’. I see myself as a “life athlete” striving for excellence in life – because life is in a way a game”

Denise Stargazer

Shaman | Spiritual Therapist | Intuitive Guide

Meet Denise Stargazer

Between the intersection of a healer and a scientist, I was born. Raised by a rocket-scientist dad and an artist/teacher mom, I learned how to cultivate my unique blend of seeker and story-teller. These gifts have given me the grace to guide others through their darkest journeys. They have also helped me heal my own wounds, left over from divorce, betrayal and abandonment. We all have a spiritual spark we want to set free, and I have a mystical recipe to help.

I almost drowned at 7 years old. Terrifying (but awakening), I realized how intuitive I had become from this unusual initiation into light. I was drawn to help. I wanted to heal.

At the tender age of 25… I started to teach. After grad-school and for 20 years I was a college professor of Psychology and Human Development. This intertwined with my professional therapy career as a Forensic Trauma Clinician and crisis intervention expert. For years and years I worked in the trenches. I walked the streets with the homeless and searched the streams for the fallen. Darkness is no stranger to me. There is no fear where there is the possibility of hope and healing.

Ten years ago, I left the world of clinical therapy and courtrooms to find solace in art. After surviving my divorce, creativity healed me. I wrote a book about it titled The Fraud Fable, and I became an art and hypnotherapist. Using my intuition helped me really understand what my clients were hiding (unbeknownst to them). My path as a mystic was being paved.

And now, as an initiated shamanic energy healer, I have fully embarked on a journey of the few. Energy medicine is a strong teacher. It lifts us into light and illuminates what we haven’t been able to cure with traditional therapy, medicines or practices. As a member of the Q’ero Shaman from Peru, I am a mystic. A truth teller. A keeper of the ancient stories and wisdom. And I am a clear-channel intuitive. I am Denise Stargazer. Healer and helper.

I openly share this light path with those seeking healing. I hope you find what you are looking for, and what your soul longs for within these pages. Blessings abound.

Life Coach | Home School Education Specialist

Christina Wallace guides others on the path of healing and empowerment

June 10th, 2021

3 minute read

Christina Wallace used to be on medications for allergies, would constantly get sick, and overcame various back injuries. Now she’s able to live the natural way, after learning how to heal from within.

Christina is an award-winning educator, life coach, healer, writer, speaker, and consultant. She’s had clients all over the world, such as Australia and Belgium. She began her career as a high school teacher, then an assistant principal, and then a principal. Once she became a single mom, she decided to shift gears to spend more time with her son. Christina became a consultant, traveling and teaching others about education. Through this journey, she tapped into her own personal development. She decided to start her own business as a health and life coach.

She created her own company called EmpowerTeach in 2017. EmpowerTeach, LLC is a coaching and consulting firm that helps both individuals and organizations. For many clients, their personal and professional lives overlap. Christina helps them overcome mindset obstacles and guides them in achieving their dreams.

Through life coaching & business consulting, Christina uses many strategies such as timeline therapy, hypnotherapy and meditation. She begins with a discovery session and prework, in order to understand each client and determine their comfort levels. As she says, it’s all about building trust & relationships.

By joining Circle of Hope, Christina believes she can bring her own health journey, healing techniques, and her ability to help others “live in the now.” Her mother, stepfather, and father all have had cancer, so knows firsthand how to bring compassion and empathy to those going through the healing process. She has grown throughout her own journey, finding techniques that helped her and which she hopes to share with others. This includes reducing anxiety and finding the joy and beauty in what she’s been given. For Christina, hope is the belief that God has only the best for us and can help us heal.

“Hope is that feeling of love and connection with your higher being”-Christina Wallace

She is most looking forward to learning through Circle of Hope, saying she’s “a geek when it comes to learning and personal growth.” And obviously, she can’t wait to help cancer patients and caregivers heal and find peace.

“I really believe we all have the power within us if we can just tap into it and take a moment of silence,” said Christina
